The approach that DragonBox Elements takes in teaching geometry is quite simple, yet effective!ġ) Players learn to identify shapes based on their properties.Ģ) Players solve logic-based puzzles by using the properties of the given shapes placed in complex figures to draw conclusions about other shapes in the figure.ģ) Players progress through the game using the definitions, postulates and theorems (from Euclid’s Elements) to solve increasingly sophisticated puzzles. Supplied software is HP’s normal bundle, including PhotoCreations, Solutions Center and Smart Web Printing, but there are also downloadable apps for pre-designed forms and access to your Facebook photos, among many other things. These include two blacks, with a higher capacity cartridge of pigmented ink to handle text. Hinge up the whole of the upper section of the machine and the head carrier slides to the centre of the carriage to present its five ink cartridges. The first 20 incoming and outgoing faxes each month are free. You can also send faxes wirelessly this way, using eFax, without needing a phone line. This is the better way to do things, as in addition to HP’s ePrint facility, the machine supports Apple’s Airprint for easy transfer of documents from iPhone, iPod and iPad. There’s a single USB socket at the back, but the printer also offers wireless connection and with WPS setup it’s only a few button presses to connect. It supports gestures, but you have to press quite hard for it to recognise virtual button presses. While it does have a touchscreen and dedicated touch buttons down either side, it’s functions are limited and its touch action is not very sensitive. In front of the scanner is what looks vaguely like an iPhone, laid on its side. Pages feed out onto the top of the paper tray cover with an extending paper support and flip-up stop.Īt the top of the machine is a fold-open feed tray for the scanner’s 25-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) and this is a very low-profile unit, adding only a couple of centimetres to its height. There’s no real reason for the extended surround at the bottom of the machine, though it does hold a memory card reader for SD and MemoryStick cards. In fact, though, it’s a standard A4 printer, with a 125-sheet tray topped off by a 20-sheet photo tray, which powers into the machine when photo print is selected. You’d be forgiven for thinking this machine could handle A3 paper, as the lower section, which houses the paper tray, runs the full width of the machine. The Photosmart 7510 shows the designers’ latest outing. In its latest round of machines, it has tried hard to break away from the square-box-with-a-scanner-on-top look of many home multifunctions. Nobody can say the industrial design of HP inkjet all-in-ones is mundane. ![]() And, per Marissa Zen, who runs minimal living blog Squirrels of a Feather, minimalism is also not just about physical clutter. You also don’t have to live in a tiny house, decorate in only neutral colors, or never walk into a retail store again in order to practice minimalism. But everything I own adds real value to my life,” he explains. He owns a phone, laptop, clothes, books, and beyond but has found a way to eliminate the excess. ![]() If you were to walk into his home, Fields-Millburn says you probably wouldn’t proclaim, “Oh my God that guy’s a minimalist.” You would simply think he’s very organized. “So ultimately minimalism is about reprioritizing and eventually healing our relationship with our material possessions, so that we can actually use them instead of all of our things using and stressing us out along the way.” “The problem is if everything is valuable, then nothing is valuable,” he says. Fields-Millburn explains that he and Nicodemus aren’t against owning things. Minimalism mythsĬontrary to popular belief, minimalism is not living in deprivation in a stark white house with zero furniture. Minimalism helps you pair down to only what you consider important to your life and challenges you to give anything that isn’t serving you, or as Kondo puts it “sparking joy," the boot. And all the knickknacks you’ve collected throughout the years sit on shelves that need frequent dusting. Your latest tech gadget requires continuous updating and charging. For instance, the new treadmill you bought may make you cringe every time you walk by it without hopping on. And in addition to the initial purchase cost, these things require constant attention, like storing them, cleaning and maintaining them, replacing batteries or parts, and feeling guilty about not using them. The average American household, says Fields Millburn, has 300,000 items. The duo, who runs a popular podcast and recently authored their latest book, Love People, Use Things: Because the Opposite Never Works, define minimalism as “the thing that gets us past the things so we can make room for life's important things – which actually aren't things at all.” Joshua Fields Millburn, along with his counterpart, Ryan Nicodemus, helps people “live meaningful lives with less” as The Minimalists. But what is minimalism? Do you have to get rid of everything you own to be a minimalist? And what value does paring down your stuff bring to your life? Here is an introduction to the movement. After Marie Kondo, author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, got her own Netflix show in 2019, people became so obsessed with going through their closets and drawers that her name became verb: “I can’t hang out this weekend because I’m Marie Kondoing my house.” And now, people are starting to turn towards the concept of minimalism. And in recent years, there has been a push towards simplifying. It has inspired organizing and purging parties. ![]() Being stuck inside during the pandemic has made many of us aware of the vast amount of things that we have in our homes. ![]() This is easy to set up (just make sure that each Photo Group has a unique name) and offers all of the customsation features we’ve discussed above. However, it can also be used to display individual thumbs that each open their own gallery, so you could have thumbs representing different hotel rooms, for example, which when clicked open separate galleries showing a virtual tour of each room. So, Photo is a good choice if you want a collection of thumbnails that open up into a linked, lightboxed gallery. Similarly, the thumbnail grid re-jigs gracefully, depending on the device being used. The lightbox behaves very well on smaller screens, the controls move to the bottom and swiping and zooming work a treat it also supports more sophisticated gestures, so you can swipe down to zoom in, then swipe down again to close the lightbox completely. The album and caption name float into view just after the enlarged photo appears and if the photo is larger than the current screen size, you’ll see a ‘+’ icon at the top left – click this and you’ll then be able to move around the full picture either using the mouse pointer or by swiping on a touch screen. There’s a choice between light and dark themes, and you can set the overall opacity, image radius, padding, whether zoom is enabled (see below) and whether to switch on basic image protection (which will be enough to deter the casual right mouse clicker). The lightbox itself is elegant and reasonably flexible. Each individual photo in the gallery can carry an album name and a caption (you can use this as the Alt and Title tag to save time) and it’s possible to specify whether the image is local or warehoused (stored on your web server, for example) if you choose the latter you’ll need to create thumbnails for each image manually and upload those as well. If you have images of different dimensions – and it’s important to display them to reflect this – you can also switch to a masonry-style layout. Photo offers plenty of control over the way the thumbnail grid is displayed, including the corner radius, spacing, the number of columns it spans (1-5) as well as the way captions work – here you can specify when they display (on hover, always, hide) where they’re positioned, font-size, emphasis, colour, background and hover background. Preview the page and you’ll see a neat row of thumbs that spans whatever container they’re sitting inside, which then expand to an attractive lightbox/slideshow when a visitor clicks on one. By default this is set to display three images as square thumbs with rounded corners and a hover effect – just drag your photos into the provided image wells (Photo automatically creates low-res thumbs of the full size pictures) and you’re done. Drag the Photo Base stack onto a Stacks 3 page and then drop in the Photo Group stack. You can get started with Photo in a few seconds. Photo is a comprehensive, yet easy to use responsive gallery stack that thinks it’s a lightbox that thinks it’s a slideshow and this ability to display photos in a wide range of different ways makes it a very attractive and flexible stack. |
